The Inaugural Paisley Legal Walk: A Night of Justice, History and Community

The inaugural Paisley Legal Walk took place on Tuesday 23rd September 2025, bringing nearly 30 walkers together to explore Paisley’s legal history and industrial heritage. Led by Paisley Tours, this unique experience shone a spotlight on the town’s role in one of the most important legal cases in the world – Donoghue v Stevenson, the famous “snail in the bottle” case.

A Legal Walking Tour Through Paisley’s Past

The evening began at Paisley Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Mohan welcomed participants before they set off on a guided walking tour. With the help of personal headsets, walkers heard stories that connected Paisley’s legal, industrial and social history.

Along the route, the group visited sites linked to the historic Donoghue v Stevenson case, which began in a local Paisley café in 1928 and went on to establish the modern law of negligence. Known globally as the “snail in the bottle” case, it remains one of Scotland’s most significant contributions to legal history.

Sheriff Mohan Praises the Event

Sheriff Mohan described the walk as “a great success… an enjoyable evening which highlighted Paisley’s history and raised funds for, and awareness of, the Access to Justice Foundation.”

The evening concluded at The Old Swan, where walkers enjoyed refreshments and reflected on Paisley’s place in the story of justice.

The Paisley Legal Walk was organised by MJC LAW and the Faculty of Procurators in Paisley, with funds raised in support of the Access to Justice Foundation.
